by our sister company Thunder Hearing & Sound
Early in his career as an acoustical engineer, Dr. Thunder had significant experience helping churches and other venues improve the acoustics of their space. As a dispensing audiologist, Dr. Thunder has also had significant experience fitting hearing aids. He learned that hearing aids work well when fit properly, but they were only effective for distances of less than about 10 feet.
Intrigued by the efforts in Great Britain at installing hearing loops to help those with hearing aids to overcome acoustical issues, Dr. Thunder spent a year researching the efficacy of hearing loops. In essence, these systems send the audio signal directly to any hearing aid with a t-coil. No background noise, no reverberation, just clear sound. Based on his findings and new knowledge, he began to loop churches and other venues in the Chicagoland area. He also fostered research by his students at Rush University and Northern Illinois University to generate the evidence audiologists needed that hearing loops work … and work well!
The growth of his looping activity grew, with his son Steve, Dr. Thunder decided to begin a separate company called, Thunder Hearing & Sound. With the help of his associates in acoustical engineering, electrical engineering, health promotions, and audio technology, his company continues to grow. His effort in this area has been a great source of professional and personal satisfaction since so many lives are improved and so many venues appreciate the simplicity of loops.
The mission of Thunder Hearing & Sound is to change the lives of people who have a hearing impairment by providing clear sound in any environment. Its success will mean a world in which no one will feel disconnected because of hearing impairment.
